I am posting.
ReplyDeleteI know something from wiki about the process of the electing an American president,it will be held every four years and it contains a lot of different components like electoral college, caucuses, and the national conventions. What's more, to be honest, I don't know many things about the two parties. I only know the name of the two parties is called the Democratic and Republican.
ReplyDeleteHowever, since I have seen the debate between Hillary and Trump so I can get some information about the two candidates. As far as I am concerned, I prefer Hillary than Trump, because she is a very strong woman. And in my perspective,as a woman, Hillary learns more about women's psychology,so if she become the president of the United States, she will be more focused on women's rights and interests of society. In addition, compared with Trump, Hillary looks like a better choice to be a president of a nation, so I think she will win.
correct something "so if she becomes the president of the United States...."
DeleteWOW, very professional idea, I like it so much.
DeleteYes, I agree with you too. Attention to "the names of the parties are...";
Delete" I prefer Hillary to Trump." Also, "Hillary understands more.."
Diana
I do not know much about the elections of 2016, I know that this are one of the most weirdest and mediatic elections of the century. They say that these are the two candidates the least likely people want, so Americans are not happy with the options to choose from. There are different political parties, but the two strongest are the Republicans and Democrats. In the elections people have to choose for the president and vice president for the next four years.
ReplyDeleteTo be honest, I do not know much about how elections handles, much less about the candidates, only when I saw the first debate between Hilary and Trump, I knew why people are so crazy about it, in my option I prefer Hilary, though.
I do not know much about her, I think she it's a strong, determined woman, who can do a lot for the contry and the woman rights and from my point of view as a woman, I think she will be an excellent choice as president, and hopefully she would become in the first woman President of the United States.
Hi Sara, I like your thouhgts about the idea of have the first woman President, could be a good change that benefits North Americans and also Latin Americans. Woman are more smarter than men ;-)
DeleteGood. Attention to: "I know that this is one of the weirdest and ?elections.."; and "I do not know much about how elections are handled.. ( or, how they work). Also: "I am crazy about this election" means "I love it." "This election makes me crazy" means it makes me insane! One more thing: "women's rights" it the usual term.
DeleteActually, I just know a little about the process of election. I know firstly people will elect a person from the inside of Party, then American people will elect one person to become president.
ReplyDeleteI know the two Parties are Democratic and Republican. Democratic represent middle class, and Republican represent elite.
As a outsider, I don’t have a favorite candidate. Will, as a woman, I like Hilary more than Trump. I think everybody knows why.
I think Hilary will win, but it doesn’t mean she is a perfect candidate. I think she will win, because she just better than Trump. I know recently she has a lot of scandal, but every is not perfect. In the meantime, she is working in the government now, so she has a lot of experience than Trump. That’s why I think Hilary will win.
Frances, I agree with you. Trump maybe cannot be a winner.
DeleteFrances, I think we have the same opinion.I aslo hope Hillary will win!
DeleteFrances, I see that your views have evolved since the summer. Good! I surely agree that Hillary isn't perfect, but then nobody is.("No one is perfect," rather than " everybody is not...")
DeleteAttention to: Democrats and Republicans ( the nouns); vs. Democratic and Republican ( the adjectives).
1.People vote for the candidates. According to the result, winner takes it all in a State.
ReplyDelete2. Democratic and Republican.
3. I still like Trump. Actually I dislike Trump less than other candidate. I think that US political system needs to be changed.
If Trump can be a president, he can change many things from health insurance to financial area. He is not a politician from the beginning. He is an outsider. He is against the immigrant and I worry about that.
4. It is not easy for Trump to be an US president.
Gil, I see that your views have evolved a bit too. I do not entirely agree with you, but I think I understand. I surely do agree about Trump's attitude towards immigrants.
DeleteNo grammar problems here. Just one detail: no capital letter for "state,"unless you are talking about the Secretary of State.
Dear Diana,
ReplyDeleteAttached please find my answers to the quiz about the American elections.
1. What do you know about the process of electing an American president?
The election occurs every four years and also includes the election of the Vice President. The 2016 Presidential election will be on November 8, 2016. The candidates have campaigned across the country to explain their point of views and plans to Americans and participate in debates with candidates from other parties. Are two sides Democrats and Republicans.
2. What do you know about our 2 political parties?
Hillary is the actual Secretary of State of USA, she is married to Bill Clinton one of the Presidents of USA during 1993 to 2001, also Hillary is the first woman in the Democrat Party to obtain the candidature of President and could be the first woman in the history of the United States to be president . In addition during her campaign has been questioned about her emails. Moreover, her husband cheating on her with Monica Lewinsky.
Donald Trump is a “visionary” businessman and he is the candidate for the Republican party. He was very criticized because of his bad reputation with women. Also, he gains popularity because was in the Beauty Contest of Miss Universe and owner of the rights for the shows. Furthermore, he is struggling the scandal about his debts in not paying taxes, and also because he called Miss Piggy and Miss Housekeeping the ex-Miss Universe Alicia Machado.
3. Do you have a favorite candidate? Why do you favor this person?
My favorite candidate is Clinton. I'm gaining to her because she is the best option in terms of stabilization of the world economy, her proposals are more focused and she had more experience in terms of politician. Also because she is the best strategic allied for Mexico.
4. Which one do you think will win?
I think is going to win Hillary. If she works during these days in protecting her good image about them e-mails and if she uses the strategy about that she will become the first woman President of USA.
Thanks
Israel Islas
Israel, you clearly know a lot about the process! Here are a couple of comments on grammar and mechanics. I'll tell you the rest in person.
Delete1. "actual" is a false cognate. It is "current" in English.
2. Change "he gains popularity" to "he has gained.."
3. Change "I'm gaining to her." to "I'm leaning toward her" ( I think)
4. In general, pay attention to fragments and run-on sentences. We will work on that in tomorrow's class.
1. O know that is a Election Day for the president of the United States, now the candidates at Hilary Clinton and Donald trump, I know for the Americans is really important this day and a lot of companies, colleges, schools are close then the people have to go do the vote. Also I know there are two parties "democratic and republican" (red and blue) and this means 50% / 50%.
ReplyDelete2. I know about the two political parties that Hilary clinton is democratic and donald trump is republican, also I know that republicans are the President Obama's opposition, where is Donald trump.
3.my favorite candidate is Hilary Clinton, because I think is the opportunity por a woman to be the president of the United States, second, because I prefer her speech and definitely because I hate trump, I'm a immigrant, I'm Latina, and he was talking really bad about us, like trying to avoid the immigration, that's why I prefer Hilary to win.
4. Even Hilary being my favorite and less crazy than Donald trump, a lot of people just love him and is democracy, so the most part of the people is going for Trump, then I think he is gonna win.
Gloria, you have made some very wise comments. In general pay attention to run-on sentences ( see above), and also to capitalization. That is, be sure to capitalize proper names ( as in Donald Trump), and that includes political parties ( Democrats and Republicans).
DeleteAlso, "gonna" is only for conversation. It should be written as "going to."

ReplyDeleteDear Diana,
ReplyDeleteThis is my opinion .
1. What do you know about the process of electing an American president?
In China we pay more attention to the vote of electing an American president instead of other complex steps. There are equal chances among all folks to elect their president indirectly.
2. What do you know about our 2 political parties?
There are the 2 major contemporary parties in the USA: Democratic Party and Republican Party.
Democratic Party initially called Democratic-Republican Party which was funded by Thomas Jefferson and James Madison , consisting mainly of farmers in 1790s, is one of the most original parties of the world. It advocates liberalism and populism, generating presidents with generation after generation, such as Franklin Delano Roosevelt, William Jefferson Clinton, Barack Obama, etc.
In contrast, Republican Party also abbreviated GOP (Grand Old Party) was established after Civil War, supporting less management of government in economy. And it also more tends to settle diplomatic issues by military force than Democratic Party does. Despite the descent of approval rating, recently, there are many famous presidents come from GOP, for example George Washington (the first president of the USA), Abraham Lincoln, George H.W. Bush, etc.
3. Do you have a favorite candidate? Why do you favor this person?
I do not have favorite candidate, because I have come here just for 2 months with lacking knowledge of American candidate. But considering the interaction of international economy, I prefer Hillary Clinton.
4. Which one do you think will win?
I think it is hard to predicate now, because Hillary Clinton should have won. (her support rate used to be 10% higher than that of Donald Trump) However, after the investigation coming from FBI, Donald Trump exceeded her by 1% with preponderance of the proportion of vote.
Best wishes
Xiaoxi Han
Xiaoxi, it looks like you have done some research. Great!
DeleteAttention to:
1. the difference between "funded" ( paid for) and "founded" ( started); 2. In question #3, change the verb tense to : I came here ( simple past) just 2 months ago; and 3. in question 4, change "predicate" to "predict."
Dear students,
ReplyDeleteThank you for these wonderful comments. I have tried to comment on the substance and briefly on the grammar in each of these.
See you all tomorrow,
Diana
This is my comment.
ReplyDeleteAnswering to question no1.
ReplyDeleteI think after evey fours years there is elections in United States of America. People of USA have right to chose there best and appropriate candidate for the presidency. Now I am seeking people showing great interest, enthusiasm and passion and going to take part in the elections which are scheduled on Tuesday, November 08, 2016.
I think vote has great power to change destiny of any country. I wishing both parties of USA "good luck for elections.
Answer to question no.2
There are two major political parties in USA, Democratic Party and Republican Party. The Democratic party is already in government. The current president of USA is also from Democratic party and his influence would be handy for Hilliry Clinton and Bernie Sanders.
Other hands Republican party can be change faith and ideology of united States. They are now opposition of ruling party. Their leader are Donald Trump and Ted Cruz. Both of them are very active now a days.
Answer to question no.3
Well I am quiet new in USA and i know little about both parties leaders. It is very difficult & hard to me to make any decision. Some times we are not in any position to say something and prediction may be wrong.
Answer to Question no.4
I think both parties are running excellent campaigns and doing a lot advertisement through print media, election media and going door to door that if you will vote us we do this, we will do that. I am not in a position to say any thing but it seems that Hillary Clinton' winning chance are 70% and Donald Trump 30%.
Dear Diana,
ReplyDeleteHere are the answers about the four questions.
1. the process of electing an American president is a long way. First the candidates must win in their state. And then they will continue compare with other candidates. During this period, candidates have to travel to others states to get support. and they will take the presidential election on the Monday after the second Wednesday in December.
2.Hillary was the wife of the Bill Clinton which is the presidents of the united states. she also is a lawyer and politician. Donald Trump is a famous businessman and he is over confident about himself .Donald Trump also have a bad reputation about the relationship with women.
3.i don’t have the favorite candidate. But I approve the Trump’s opinion about decreasing tax and take care about old solders.
4. I think the Hillary will win .Hillary seems having more advantages.
Thanks
